According to Daniel Pink, author of A Whole New Mind, there are six essential senses. Chief among them is the sense of Symphony, which involves putting pieces together to form a big picture, synthesizing rather than analyzing, seeing relationships between unrelated fields, detecting broad patterns, and inventing something new by combining various elements. Pink compares the sense of Symphony to the relationship between the composer, the conductor, and the orchestra who work together to create “a whole whose magnificence exceeds the sum of its parts.” In this case, Romanieo N. Golphin is a true Symphonist.
Born in the American South, but a true native of Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Golphin's professional pursuits have taken him to many parts of the world. To highlight a few, he was a linguistic student at Moscow State University (2003); a multimedia manager and logistics liaison for a multicultural nonprofit organization that engaged in a music and cultural tour of Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, South Africa (2005); an Assistant Conductor and Music Director in Amatlan, Mexico (2005); a guest lecturer in composition in Puebla, Mexico (2006); and a participant in an economic forum on global sourcing in Xi'an, China (2007). Most recently (2010) he has been working with several communities in Mexico on economic, agricultural and educational initiatives.
The birth of his Son in 2009 gave rise to a new facet in Mr. Golphin's thinking regarding education and cognition. As an international multimedia strategist and symphonic thinker, Mr. Golphin felt that the one way street in our Nation pointing children towards STEM-related fields was a noble gesture as a way to "address the educational gap," but it tends to undervalue the fundamentals of creativity and innovative thinking.
Over the past year Mr. Golphin has developed an expanded version of STEM, labeling it, T.E.A.M.M.S. Mr. Golphin writes TEAMMS as a formula to express its mathematical and scientific approach (TEAM2S). The additional "A" and "M" rounds out the acronym and it is expressed as follows:
Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, Music and Science.
This "whole human being," "whole new mind," approach has been the secret sauce blend of intellectual ingredients that has produced the minds of the most innovative civilizations and its citizenry. Contemporary examples include, Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman and Steve Jobs. One can only imagine what the world would be like if Feynman (father of QED) didn't have his drums and paints.
Since posting the video showing the implementation of the TEAM2S method, where Mr. Golphin and Dr. Philip's 2 1/2 year old Son discusses the rudiments of Particle Physics (atomic numbers) and Chemistry; there has been an outpouring of support with overwhelming requests of a guide book or videos detailing the method. As of January, 2012, The Robeson Group is in the process of formalizing this approach in a book titled, "A little like Einstein: Rebirth of the Polymath."
